Saratoga High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble

Established in 1959, Saratoga High School, with an enrollment of approximately 1,250 students, is located 45 minutes south of San Francisco on the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, adjacent to Silicon Valley.  Over 98% of Saratoga High School students attend College following High School Graduation. The Saratoga High School Music Department involves 40% of the schools’ population. The curricular program includes 3 Concert Bands, a Percussion Class with various ensembles, 2 Jazz Bands, a competitive Marching Band, 4 String Orchestra’s, 2 Symphony Orchestra’s, 2 Choirs, Advanced Placement Music Theory, and various chamber and outreach ensembles. Saratoga High School ensembles have performed at regional, state, and national conferences and earned consistent superior ratings at state, local, and international festivals for over 15 years. 

Michael Boitz is the Performing Arts Department Chair at Saratoga High School, where he is in his 19th year of teaching Instrumental Music. Boitz has led concert tours in Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and Australia, performing at notable halls such as the Musikverein in Vienna and the Sydney Opera House. Under his direction, the Saratoga High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Saratoga Strings were featured performers at the World Projects Carnegie Hall Wind Band Festival in 2011. The Marching Band at Saratoga High has performed in the 2012 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the 2016 Tournament of Roses Parade, and was the 2015 Bands of America West Coast Regional Champion. The Saratoga High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra have performed numerous times at the local and state level of the California Music Educators Association and California Band Directors Association conferences during the past 19 years, and in 2014 the Saratoga Strings were honored to perform at the Midwest International Clinic in Chicago, IL.
